We are truly disturbed and inconvenienced by the haze. Not only are we exposed to or suffering health problems, we have also been ridiculed. How unfair it is to us who are suffering quietly! Yet the government who is responsible for the burning of their forests spurn us when we offer our help. What an ungrateful neighbour! I suppose they want more aid in terms of financial assistance! How can a country be so jealous of another country’s wealth!
In terms of natural resources, we have nothing. But they have more than any other countries. The only problem is the leaders do not know the ways and means to galvanise its people to solve their problems Well, I’m apolitical and I do not want to be involved in politics!
Ah, I have just written a short poem about the HAZE. Let it speak to all of us.
H A Z E
A forest fire pollutes the air,
Smoke, ashes, dust and haze envelop the sky;
Strong winds scatter these to neighbouring lands,
Causing health problems and pandemonium to innocent lives!
Is Nature to be blamed for the spark that lit?
Or Man’s cheapest way of clearing forest land?
An annual vicious cycle perpetuates,
Leaving neighbouring nations to negotiate!
We are so vunerable,
People use haze like daggers at our throats;
Each year asking for more donations to keep it at bay,
Enriching the coffers of our neighbouring state!
Is there no remedy for this state of affairs?
Just blaming Nature for all its ills,
Our economy may come to a stand still;
While the culprits reap the rich harvest!
Ignoring our goodwill and neighbourliness,
Our offer of assistance has been spurned;
What must we do to counter act,
This kind of natural terrorism?
WE MUST STAND UNITED AND BE STRONG,
TOGETHER WE WILL FIGHT TO WEATHER THE HAZY STORM;
WITH MASKS, GUTS AND RESILIENCE,
WE SHALL STAND INVINCIBLE TO THE LAST!
