Learning and teaching go hand in hand. When we teach, we learn. We never stop learning when we are teaching! When a teacher stops learning, he will never be a skilfull teacher!
I was asked to give a simple talk to a group of students who want to be teachers – just some insights of a teacher’s life and some basic principles of teaching. It was an enjoyable time with them as it brought back many happy memories of bygone years!
Some of them have heard and read about my LUM strategies of teaching and learning. So, I elaborated a little on it:
WHEN I SEE, I LEARN. WHEN I DO, I UNDERSTAND. WHEN I PRACTISE, I MASTER!
L earn….U nderstand…… M aster!
To SEE things is to gather information. All senses are involved.
To DO things is to be involved. (When I am involved, I learn.)
To PRACTISE is to master the particular skill or knowledge!
Anyone who has the above wisdom will be able to elaborate further. Armed with this basic principle of teaching and learning, then we will be a very skilful teacher!
